Baseball in Canada dates back almost 170 years, from its inception
in Beachville, Ontario, in 1838, to the formation of the first
official Canadian baseball team in 1854, spreading to the creation
of Major League teams like the Montreal Expos and Toronto Blue
Jays, and beyond, to various Minor League teams. Canadian baseball
has been intimately intertwined with the development of baseball
in the United States, and through such organizations as the International
League, baseball grew to be a sporting phenomenon larger than
one nation could handle.
Canada produced, exported, and was home to some of the best and most memorable
players in baseball history, including Jackie Robinson, Fergie Jenkins, Gary
Carter, Pete Rose, Roberto Alomar, and many others. The following is a summary
of some of the famous dates in the history of baseball in Canada.
